Nose goes! This week baby’s nose starts working. Baby isn’t breathing air, just breathing in amniotic fluid as a practice run. Several smells should be discernible in utero by baby in the next few weeks. How wild is that??

Baby’s lungs still have a lot of maturing to do before being ready to function in the outside world. One of those steps happens this week with the development of surfactant. This substance will help the lungs inflate with oxygen when baby is on the outside.

Baby’s translucent skin begins to turn pinker this week as capillaries, small blood vessels, fill with blood.

Remember when you were a kid and would put a basketball under your shirt to pretend you were pregnant? Well at week 25, that’s just how big your uterus is!
